Caulfield Cup 2012 Barrier Draw Announced – Glencadam Gold Wide

Early Caulfield Cup 2012 favourite Glencadam Gold will have to overcome a wide barrier if he is to keep his unbeaten record on Australian soil alive this Saturday.

Glencadam Gold

Glencadam Gold has drawn wide for the Caulfield CUp

The Gai Waterhouse-trained import drew barrier 21, with another top fancy, Dunaden, the only horse to draw wider in barrier 22.

It comes as a hit to the Dunaden camp, with jockey Craig Williams stating earlier this week he was hoping for an inside barrier with the 2011 Melbourne Cup winner.

Also drawing wide is fellow Melbourne Cup winner Americain (19) who like Dunaden will be having his first start in the Caulfield Cup this weekend.

December Draw, who went in to last year’s race as favourite, has drawn barrier 12 which pleases trainer Mark Kavanagh.

“You don’t want to draw 22 and you don’t want to draw 1,” Kavanagh said.

“In the middle you can jockey for a position and get to where you want to be.”

Peter Moody has received a mix bag with his three Caulfield Cup runners, with Voila Ici drawing barrier 17, Sneak A Peak 10 and Brisbane Cup winner Lights Of Heaven receiving barrier eight.

Moody is not overly concerned by the wide barrier for Voila Ici and is confident his three charges are going into the race in good order.

“He [Voila Ici] could’ve been a bit prettier…but he’s a natural go forward horse and he’s got good gate speed.”

“Voila Ici’s form has been very good for this sort of race.

“Sneak A Peek has worked every bit as good as any of these horses at home including Manighar.

“I’m very pleased with my three.”

Luca Cumani may have lost Cox Plate runner Afsare to injury this morning but will be pleased following the Caulfield Cup barrier draw with My Quest For Peace receiving a favourable barrier two draw.

Other notable barriers include 2011 winner Southern Speed (14), last year’s Epsom winner Secret Admirer (11), the Jake Stephens-trained Alcopop (9) and four-year-old Zabeelionaire (1).
