Heading Out Hair and Beauty Stakes 2012 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

Eleven horses have been named to contest the Listed 2012 Heading Out Hair & Beauty Stakes (1200m) which will take place at Caulfield on Wednesday.

As a key support race to the Thousand Guineas, the $120,000 event features plenty of quality including a mixture of in-form runners and some who are having their first race of the spring.

Resuming for the first time since a Brisbane winter campaign is Darley four-year-old Free Wheeling who was a consistent performer during his last preparation.

The son of Ad Valorem won the Hawkesbury Guineas before heading to Queensland to finish fourth in the Group 3 BRC Sprint and runner-up in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas.

Another horse who has already proven they can match it at Stakes level is six-year-old gelding Morant who is fresh off a half-length third to Miss Marx in the Listed Testa Rossa Stakes.

Facing a step up in class but in terrific form is experienced Luke Oliver-trained gelding Overtake who is chasing a fourth consecutive victory after winning at Mornington in July and twice in midweek events at Snadwon during August.

Sharnee Rose, who has been dubbed Australia’s best maidener, will again attempt to break her duck after three placings so far this spring.

Trained by Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra, the four-year-old has placed nine times from 12 starts including a third behind Atlantic Jewel and Mosheen in last year’s Thousand Guineas.

Stepping out for Robert Smerdon is See The World who will be having his second start for the Sydney trainer transferring from Joe Pride in Sydney prior to the spring.

The Danzero gelding won the Listed Takeover Target Stakes in June but failed to fire in his first-up Melbourne test when last in the Chandler Macleod Stakes.

Others set to line up in Wednesday’s Listed sprint include Group 3 placegetter Cascabel and consistent Canberra-based gelding Onthelookout who will both be having their first starts of the spring.
