Buffering has been confirmed to take his place in Saturday’s Group 2 2012 Schillaci Stakes (2000m) after a minor scare last week.
The star Queensland sprinter was flat for a couple of days last week after undergoing inoculations for a possible trip to Hong Kong later this year but is now back to full health.
“He was off colour for a day after he had the injection but he’s 100 per cent now,” trainer Robert Heathcote said.
“The vet told me his coat has a real glow to it.”
It will be the second start of Buffering’s campaign after a tough first-up win in the Group 2 Moir Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley two weeks ago.
With Black Caviar and Hay List on the sidelines many regard Buffering as the best sprinter in the country and he will be out confirm it this spring.
Following the Schillaci he will attempt to achieve a first-ever Group 1 victory in the Manikato Stakes (1200m) on October 26 before tackling the Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) in November.
Heathcote lumped praise on his stable star following the Moir Stakes win and is predicting him to finally break through at Group 1 level this spring.
“Horses like him make us trainers look like we know what we’re doing. We can make mistakes in their training and they can cover them up,” Heathcote said.
The Schillaci Stakes takes place at Caulfield on Saturday as a key support race on a bumper card.
The program features three Group 1 races with star colt Pierro contesting the Caulfield Guineas with other features the Group 1 Toorak Handicap and the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes.
