Philippi wins the 2012 Listed UCI Stakes

Philippi won the race by three quarters of a length in front of Hvasstan, who placed second, and Jimando, who crossed the line in third.

Trainer Michael Kent was thrilled with Philppi’s latest race win in today’s Listed UCI Stakes.

“It was a good strong race wasn’t it?” Kent exclaimed.

“He’s always been strong late and he was again today.”

Kent is looking towards the $1 million Victoria Derby for Philippi, which is due to run at Flemington Racecourse on November 3.

“It’s his first prep and we’re very mindful of that,” Kent said.

“We’re heading towards the derby.”

Philippi will now go on towards the Group 3 Norman Robinson Stakes over 2,000 metres at Caulfield Racecourse on Caulfield Cup Day.

It was also the first stakes win for Philippi’s sire, Host.

“Isn’t he going well, the sire?,” said Kent.

“That’s his first stakes winner obviously.”

Jockey Brad Rawiller was aboard Philippi for the first time for his 2012 UCI Stakes win.

“We had the best run through the race,” Rawiller said.

“So he switched right off, which is another good sign going towards the Derby.

“That last 100 (metres) he just powered again and that was the most impressive part.”
