Mosheen Back In Winner’s Circle After 2012 Blazer Stakes Victory

Mosheen has reclaimed her winning form to claim victory in the Group 2 Blazer Stakes at Flemington Racecourse today October 6, 2012.

The Fastnet Rock mare had to overcome a talented field to win the $220,000 Blazer Stakes, which she did in commanding fashion.

Mosheen returns to form with 2012 Blazer Stakes win

Mosheen won the race by a length in front of Bonaria, who was the surprise second place-getter, and Miss Stellabelle, who ran third.

The four-year-old Mosheen was under immense pressure to perform in the 2012 Blazer Stakes after failing to run at her best in her past two spring carnival starts.

The multiple Group 1 winning mare took longer than expected to recover from a throat injury that saw her place 13th in her first-up spring start, before finishing fifth in the Group 3 Sportingbet Sprint last run.

Trainer Robert Smerdon was relieved to see Mosheen back in the winning circle following her 2012 Blazer Stakes victory.

“I was a bit anxious as they were going to the gates,” Smerdon said.

“At home I thought she’d progressed.

“But in the back of your mind (is the thought) she’s been pretty plain the first couple.”

Smerdon is confident Mosheen is yet to reach her best this preparation.

“She had all the favours,” he said.

“But I think she’s still got some improvement to come.”

Mosheen was due to run in the $3 million Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 27, however, will now target the Group 1 Myer Classic next month instead.

“We’d like to think she’ll be back her at her peak in four weeks’ time for the Myer,” Smerdon said.

“It sort of dawned on me eventually that we weren’t going to get to that aim.

“It was just about getting her fit and as long as her desire is still there.”

Mosheen will now head to the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse on October 20, 2012, on her way to her Myer Classic assignment.

Jockey Nicholas Hall reported that Mosheen was all clear of problems following her 2012 Blazer Stakes win.

“That’s good to see,” Hall said.

“It was a bit of a D-Day and it’s just good to see her back in winning form.

“There’s no problem with her throat.”
