Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
We have already seen some quality sprint events this spring and the action continues this weekend at Flemingtion with the Group 2 2012 Gilgai Stakes (1200m).
Among the 11 horses contesting the Gilgai are a mixture of in-form runners and a number who are competing for the first time this spring.
Heading the market is McEwen Stakes winner Bel Sprinter ($2.60) and in-form Queensland sprinter Spirit Of Boom ($4.80).
But there is plenty of quality and also set to be challenging on Saturday are Group 1 winners Mid Summer Music ($6.00) and King’s Rose ($7.00) as well as the Gai Waterhouse-trained Hallowell Belle ($11.00).
Unsure where to head with this one? Don’t worry as the Races.com.au team have been been hard at work to bring your our very best Gilgai Stakes selections.
#2 Spirit Of Boom $4.80
The Tony Gollan-trained five-year-old is third-up here which is generally where he performs his best.
Has two genuinely impressive runs under his belt including a first-up second down the straight to We’re Gonna Rock who has since gone out and finished second in a Group 1 race.
Back down the straight here and attempting to mirror brother Temple Of Boom who won this race last year.
This is nowhere near the grand final for King’s Rose but you can’t deny the Peter Moody-trained mare is quality.
A Group 1 winner in New Zealand and multiple Group 1 placegetter here and she generally goes well fresh.
Also with a good first-up record is Sistine Angel who has form down the straight with a runner-up finish in this race last year.
