The spring is in full swing now which means big, quality fields and that is exactly what is on offer in the Group 2 2012 Edward Manifold Stakes (1610m) at Flemington on Saturday.
Most of the three-year-old fillies in the race are heading towards bigger things such as the 2012 Thousand Guineas or the 2012 VRC Oaks.
Current favourite is the highly-rated Commanding Jewel ($3.50) with the next best in the market Maybe Discreet at $6.00.
Other horses towards the top end of the market are New Zealand filly Kate ($8.00), recent stakes winner Members Joy ($8.50) and the Mick Price-trained Showmyamiss ($8.00).
If you’re not sure who to back in this three-year-old fillies’ feature keep reading as the Races.com.au team have been hard at work analysing the form and are here to deliver our expert tips.
#4 Maybe Discreet $6.00
This Adelaide filly has always shown promise and has improved every time she has stepped up in distance. Found a very suitable trip last start at 1600m in the Listed Morphetville Guineas and scored a dominant three-length victory.
Over the same distance here, has fitness on her side but does have to overcome a wide barrier draw.
First start in Australia for Kate but word across the ditch is she has plenty of talent and is heading towards the VRC Oaks.
That means the 1600m at Flemington will be no problem for her here and she’s shown she knows what the game is all about with two wins and one placing from six starts.
Commanding Jewel is still raw but has plenty of talent and can’t be left out of the top three here. Will be one of the main Thousand Guineas contenders.
Won the first two starts of her career before being narrowly beaten by Lady Of Harrods in the Thousand Guineas Prelude.
