Craven Plate 2012 – Tips and Predictions

The Group 3 2012 Craven Plate (2000m) may not be the most important race on the Randwickcard but it stands to be an open affair with plenty of winning chances.

Western Symbol

Western Symbol is the pick to win the Craven Plate

It’s also one to follow looking towards the rest of the spring as a number of these horses will go on to bigger and better things throughout the spring.

Currently heading the market is Lloyd Williams-owned import Mourayan ($3.00) who is slightly ahead of Chris Waller’s import Class Is Class ($3.80).

But there are plenty of winning chances and others towards the top of the market are Western Symbol ($6.50), Dare To Dream ($8.50) and Seville ($10.00).

The Winner

#7 Western Symbol $6.50

Did absolutely nothing first-up in the Cameron Handicap (1500m) but we are willing to forgive that run and he gets up to a much more suitable trip here.

Generally performs well second-up and has won twice at track and distance in stakes races in the autumn. Has Waterhouse number one jockey Nash Rawiller aboard who will ensure he gets every chance.

The Placings

#2 Mourayan $3.00 and #9 Gazza Guru $21.00

Mourayan is destined for bigger things this spring after two impressive lead-up runs. Has been tracking nicely with a fourth in the Makybe Diva Stakes followed up by a runner-up finish to Lamasery in the Hill Stakes and can improve again here.

Veteran Wyong gelding Gazza Guru is tough and always gives his all. He’s also in good form.

Ran a tight second to Julienas in the Wyong Cup before again featuring in the placings in the Newcastle Cup.
