2012 Blazer Stakes Tips & Betting

The mares feature in Melbourne this weekend is the Blazer Stakes 2012 at Flemington’s Turnbull Stakes Day, the Races.com.au’s insider tips for which are detailed below.

Mosheen

The Races.com.au team are tipping Mosheen to get back to her best and win the 2012 Blazer Stakes this Saturday

Due to jump at 3:00pm as Flemington Race 5, the $220,000 Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1410m) features a capacity field full of genuine chances making for an intriguing betting market.

In the latest Blazer Stakes odds at bookmaker.com.au Soft Sand in barrier one with Craig Williams to ride is the $3.50 favourite.

Colin Little’s four-year-old was the beaten favourite when a first-up fourth to Detours in the How Now two weeks back and should be fitter from that run.

Other early fancies in the Blazer Stakes betting markets include four-time Group 1 winner Mosheen ($4.80) who is slowly getting back to her best after a minor throat operation threw a spanner in the works of her spring prep, and Hi Belle ($8.50) who has gate 17 to overcome but plenty of promise after running second to Zurella in the Let’s Elope here last month.

So is it one of these single figure hopefuls Races.com.au have rated special to win the Blazer Stakes?

Or are we tipping an upset with a longer priced chance such as Group 1 performer Gai’s Choice ($11) or Glen Boss’ Group 2 winning mount Shopaholic ($12).

Blazer Stakes 2012 Trifecta Tip

#1 Mosheen ($4.80) from #2 Raspberries ($13) and #10 Soft Sand ($3.50)

  • Mosheen still screams class despite her two first-up flops, she loves Flemington (7-3-1-0) and while she has to improve on her recent form we’re tipping her to do that here as she heads towards her fifth Group 1 title in the Myer Classic next month.
  • Raspberries won the Scone Cup in May last time out, the Peter Snowden-trained Lonhro mare’s first-up record only fair (3-1-0-0) but she has won at this track and distance before first-up in a Group 3 during the autumn.
  • Soft Sand should be getting close but think she’ll be the beaten favourite again. Has had a few attempts over the 1400m, the best of which was a second to fellow Blazer Stakes rival Shopaholic in the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes in February, she probably is best prepared as a sprinter.

Roughie We Like

  • #13 Total Attraction ($17): Great value at $17, should be able to stay out of trouble from the gate and run home strong getting in well with the weights on 54.5kg.  Was third in the Let’s Elope but didn’t like going back to the 1200m for the How Now when seventh, forgive that and expect her to run a good race here over the 1400m again.
