The Metropolitan 2012 Betting – Can’t Split Top Two

Sydney hosts “Super Saturday” at Randwick this weekend, with nine exciting races and none are more anticipated than the Group 1 2012 Metropolitan (2400m).

The $400,000 staying test has attracted plenty of quality horses and the two favourites in betting are currently impossible to split.

Glencadam Gold and Lamasery are both being offered at $4.20 at after showing strong lead-up form.

Glencadam Gold will be chasing a fourth straight win and be out to continue his road to the Melbourne Cup after proving a strong force since arriving at Gai Waterhouse’s stables earlier this year.

The Irish-bred gelding has handled each step up through the grades and was most recently seen leading from start to finish in the Group 3 Newcastle Cup.

While Lamasery hasn’t been quite as dominant this spring he has improved with each rise in distance and beat a highly competitive field in the Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) last month.

Leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller may not have any horses in the top two of the market but he does have the next three.

Kelinni ($7.50), Stout Hearted ($8.00) and Permit ($8.50) all come from Waller’s stable and all represent genuine winning chances.

Kelinni will be backing up just seven days after winning the Colin Stephen Quality while Stout Hearted has not finished worse than fourth in his last 10 starts.

Permit, a dual stakes winner in the autumn, has been reasonable so far this spring, producing a second in the Premier’s Cup and a sixth-place finish in the Hill Stakes.

Other Metropolitan contenders include Ron Quinton-trained mare Crafty Irna ($17.00), 2011 winner The Verminator ($21.00) and former Melbourne Cup winner Efficient ($31.00).
