Unbeaten colt Proisir is an odds-on favourite for the Group 1 2012 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) which will be held at Randwick this Saturday.
The Cox Plate-nominated three-year-old has shown plenty of talent in his short career to date, producing three convincing wins including a six-length romp in the Group 3 Spring Stakes (1600m) at Newcastle last month.
After the start-to-finish display in Newcastle, jockey Nash Rawiller heaped praise on the son of Choisir who is Melbourne bound following Saturday’s test.
“I think he’s a very impressive horse he really took the next step today with flying colours,” Rawiller said following the Newcastle win.
“He made his own luck, he travelled comfortably there in front…I was impressed with his last furlong he just quickened really well.”
He is currently being offered at $1.50 at bookmaker.com.au to score his first Group 1 title with It’s A Dundeel the next best at $4.20.
New Zealand colt It’s A Dundeel is also unbeaten and is the favourite for November’s 2012 Victoria Derby where he will attempt to continue the success New Zealand horses have had in the three-year-old staying test.
It’s A Dundeel has performed last-to-first finishes in all his Australian starts but connections have hinted he may be ridden more forward this weekend to give him the best chance of beating Proisir.
No other horse falls under double figures with the next best in the market Honorius who finished second to It’s A Dundeel in the Gloaming Stakes last start.
Other Spring Champion Stakes runners include the Bart Cummings-trained Lunar Rise ($13.00), Gai Waterhouse’s King Of Olympia ($17.00) and David Payne-trained Laser Flash.
