Full 2012 Edward Manifold Stakes Field Named

A full 16-horse field has been announced to contest the Group 2 2012 Edward Manifold Stakes (1610m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Commanding Jewel

Commanding Jewel is one of the top Edward Manifold Stakes Entrants

The $220,000 event stands to be an exciting and crucial contest as it gives all the horses a final chance to press their claims for a berth in the 2012 Thousand Guineas on October 17.

Among the top runners in the Edward Manifold Stakes is Commanding Jewel who won the first two starts of her career before being narrowly beaten by Lady Of Harrods in the Thousand Guineas Prelude on September 22.

In a boost to the three-quarter sister of Atlantic Jewel’s chances regular jockey Damien Oliver has won an appeal and is free to ride her this weekend.

Heading into the race in form is Darley filly Cameo who will be stepping up in class and having her first race in the Melbourne direction after consecutive wins at Wyong and Newcastle last month.

Cameo is one of four last-start winners in the field with the others being Maybe Discreet, Zydeco and Operation Twist.

Adelaide filly Maybe Discreet has gradually improved throughout her srping campaign and was particularly impressive last month when winning the Listed Morphetville Guineas (1600m) by three lengths.

Robert Smerdon-trained filly Members Joy showed she was up to stakes class when winning the Cap D’Antibes Stakes (1100m) early last month but will have to overcome a a wide barrier 13 draw.

Other Edward Manifold Stakes runners include Patinack pair Real Stolle and Affable, Jason Warren-trained filly Proper Madam and New Zealand product Kate who will be having her first start on Australian soil.
