Dear Demi Heads Crown Oaks Odds 2012

Clarry Conners’ smart Dehere filly Dear Demi has opened early favourite to take out the 2012 Crown Oaks at Flemington this Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Dear Demi has opened the narrow 2012 Crown Oaks favourite

Run on the third day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival on Thursday November 8, the $1 million Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) is a prestigious staying showdown for the season’s best long-distance fillies.

Last month 74 three-year-old fillies were nominated for the Crown Oaks 2012 and of those it is Dear Demi who is rated the best chance in the newly released Crown Oaks odds at bookmaker.com.au.

Runner-up to the undefeated star Pierro in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) back in April, Dear Demi pays $6.50 to go all the way and score an elite level victory of her own in the Crown Oaks.

Dear Demi has had three runs this time in, including her victory in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1400m), and was last seen finishing fourth to Longport in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1500m).

She gets the chance to turn the tables again this weekend when she runs in the $400,000 Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick’s Epsom Handicap Day.

Following Dear Demi in the current 2012 Crown Oaks betting markets are then three fillies installed as the equal second favourites with:

  • Love For Ransom ($7.50) – Greg Eurell-trained Red Ransom filly has won two of her three starts to date but hasn’t raced over 1400m as yet, Thousand Guineas bound first
  • Molto Bene ($7.50) – Will Clarken’s impressive Adelaide filly won the Group 3 SA Sires Produce Stakes as a juvenile, last seen running third in the Thousand Prelude
  • Norzita ($7.50) – Bart Cummings-trained runner in good form having run a close second in the Tea Rose last time out, runs in the Flight Stakes this Saturday – Cummings out for his 10th Crown Oaks victory

Other longer priced chances that could represent good value come Crown Oaks Day include another Cummings-trained hopeful Duet ($15), Jason Warren’s daughter of Stratum Proper Madam ($16), the Chris Waller-trained Tea Rose Stakes third placed Jade Marauder ($17) and nicely-bred Zabeel filly La Zuma ($18).

2012 Crown Oaks first acceptances are due to be taken on October 23.
