Miss Marx Takes Out Testa Rossa Stakes 2012 – Caulfield Results

David Vandyke-trained mare Miss Marx came from a tough position to a score an exciting win in the Listed 2012 Testa Rossa Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield today.

Despite usually leading, the five-year-old could not go with the speed early from a wide barrier and assumed a position well back with Damien Oliver aboard.

Miss Marx was so far away from here usual racing pattern that Vandyke had given up on her chances as the field approached the home turn.

“I thought she’d be up there leading or eyeballing the leader,” Vandyke said.

“She’s been relaxing a bit in her work but I didn’t think she’d relax like that in a race. It was a tough win, she was six or seven deep for most of the way.

“I couldn’t believe it when she got there.”

Miss Marx was coming off a second to More Joyous in the Listed Sheraco Stakes (1200m) and will now head towards the Listed 2012 Northwood Plume Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on October 13.

Experienced jockey Damien Oliver was riding the daughter of Anabaa for the first time and praised her ability to give her all at the back end of the race.

“Usually she’s up near the lead but she couldn’t quite go the early pace,” Oliver said.

“On the turn I thought she was struggling but the more I gave her the more she dug deep.”

Eight-year-old gelding McClintock finished second at huge odds in what was his first race since returning from Singapore while Morant finished in third position.
