Shannon Stakes 2012 Won By Rolling Pin – Race 5 Results

The Group 2 Shannon Stakes has been won Rolling Pin at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse today September 29, 2012.

Rolling Pin survived a protest from second place-getter Offenders to win the race by a head.

Race favourite Fat Al finished in third, while Levi’s Choice crossed the line in fourth position.

Jockey Corey Brown was adamant Rolling Pin deserved the win after the 2012 Shannon Stakes was run.

“Obviously he came off a good win in the Cameron (Handicap),” Brown said.

Brown admitted that Rolling Pin did shift in, however, does not believe it would have made any difference to the final result.

“I actually hung in the whole race he has a bit of a habit of it,” he said.

“We did brush… (but) I was always going to hold him.”

Rolling Pin’s trainer Gwenda Markwell also felt Rolling Pin was deserving of the 2012 Shannon Stakes win.

“He certainly pinned the ears back and wanted to win,” Markwell said.

“He knows how to win a race each preparation.”

Following today’s 2012 Shannon Stakes win, Rolling Pin is likely to head towards the Group 1 Epsom Handicap at Royal Randwick Racecourse next weekend.

“We’ll just see how he goes during the week and let the horse tell us,” his trainer said.

Rolling Pin has won eight of his 23 race starts and has earned more than $385,000 in prize money.
