Race 6 Results – Kelinni Wins 2012 Colin Stephen Quality

Kelinni overcame an unlucky run to win the Group 3 Colin Stephen Quality at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse today September 29, 2012.

The Refuse To Bend gelding was three wide without cover for the majority of the race, however, that did not stop him sprinting to victory down the final straight.

Kelinni has now won seven of his 16 race starts and has earned more than $280,000 in prize money.

The four-year-old is nominated for the Group 1 Melbourne Cup and Caulfield Cup this spring, along with the Group 1 The Metropolitan next weekend.

Trainer Chris Waller remained unsure as to whether Kelinni would back up in the 2012 The Metropolitan after winning today’s 2012 Colin Stephen Quality.

“That will be the big question and I guess we won’t really know that until next Saturday afternoon,” Walller said.

“He would have to please me in every facet.”

No-matter what his next task may be, Kelinni impressed Waller with his gutsy Colin Stephen Quality win.

“He beat them fair and square,” Waller said.

“He’s been too good.

“Full credit to Glyn (Schofield), he didn’t panic.

“Julienas had the run of the race behind us.”

Julienas placed second in the 2012 Colin Stephen Quality, while Strawberry Boy was forced to be content with third after fading late.

Jockey Glyn Schofield was pleased with the feeling Kelinni gave him during the 2012 Colin Stephen Quality.

“The whole way around he just travelled so smoothly for me,” Schofield said.

“He was just so relaxed in the run today.

“Chris (Waller) has done such a great job with him.”
