Snitzerland Strong to Win Champagne Stakes 2012

The impressive spring form of Snitzerland continued at Moonee Valley on Friday night as the Gerald Ryan-trained filly scored a comfortable win in the Group 3 2012 Champagne Stakes (1200m).

After jumping from the inside barrier Snitzerland assumed the lead and that is where she stayed as she scored her third victory of the spring by two lengths ahead of Hoss Amor and Saturn Rock.

The Snitzel three-year-old will now head to the Blue Sapphire (1200m) on October 13 before contesting the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington in November.

“She took advantage of her barrier, did a bit of work early,” trainer Gerald Ryan said.

“She ran a nice time, there’s still a little bit to go with her. I’m happy with where she is.

“We’ll probably go to the Blue Sapphire (1200m) in a fortnight and then she’s got three weeks into the Coolmore.”

Snitzerland has now won six times from eight starts and collected more than $1.1 million in prizemoney.

Corey Brown was back in the saddle after missing the ride in the Danehill Stakes and he suggested the star filly has improvement left in her after not quite focusing fully in her first night race.

“She took a bit of winding up to get here there. I think under lights here tonight just took a bit of her focus away,” Brown said.

“But it was still a good win.”

Runner-up Hoss Amor made a promising return in her first race as a three-year-old after starring during the Brisbane winter carnival.
