Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes 2012 – Tips

Top class racing goes all weekend and culminates on Sunday at Caulfield which hosts the only Group 1 of the weekend, the 2012 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m).

A quality 15-horse field will contest the day’s feature with the market headed by Peter Moody-trained gelding Moment Of Change ($4.00).

Joining the talented four-year-old at the top end of the market in the open betting race are Bobbie Lewis winner We’re Gonna Rock ($6.50), Queensland gelding Solzhenitsyn ($6.50) and consistent Darley seven-year-old Pinwheel ($7.00).

In what is a very open betting affair you can be forgiven for struggling to find a winner. But don’t worry, the team think they have found some nice chances so keep reading.

The Winner

#8 Shanghai Warrior $10.00

The form says he finished 16th in the Bobbie Lewis but that run needs a line put through it as he was found to have a lung infection.

Reports say he is back to full health which means he becomes a great value proposition for his first Group 1 race.

Was phenomenal the start before the Bobbie Lewis to win the Aurie’s Star Handicap and heads into a race that has always been a target.

The Placings

#6 Solzhenitsyn $6.50 and Pinwheel $7.00

Solzhenitsyn comes down from Queensland ready to make the step up. Chasing a fifth consecutive victory after starring at the winter carnival and winning first-up at Doomben earlier this month.

Has the turn of foot required to win at Group 1 level and has drawn barrier two which will allow him to get a soft run in behind the speed.

Consistent is the word to describe Pinwheel who should be right in the mix again here. Coming off two Group level victories at Warwick Farm and also runs a solid race.
