2012 Golden Pendant Tips & Trifecta Selection

More Joyous is set to start the shortest-priced favourite in a Sydney race for half a century when she runs at Rosehill on Saturday but is Gai Waterhouse’s stellar mare the number one horse in our Golden Pendant 2012 tips and trifecta selection?

More Joyous

More Joyous looks near impossible to beat in the 2012 Golden Pendant on Saturday

One of four Group races on the Rosehill Gardens program this Saturday, the $250,000 Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) is due to jump as Race 3 at 2:00pm.

It will also be the easiest race of the day, and possibly even the season, to back the winner of with eight-time Group 1 champion More Joyous facing a mediocre field of just four rivals following the early scratching of #4 Pane In The Glass.

Coming off a first-up win in the Sheraco Stakes at the track a fortnight ago, a loss by Doncaster Mile hero More Joyous here would be the year’s biggest upset as she dominates the Golden Pendant odds at bookmaker.com.au paying $1.04 to score her 21st victory from 28 starts.

So really the Golden Pendant tips aren’t so much about picking the winner, but which of the brave mares coming up against More Joyous will finish second.

2012 Golden Pendant Trifecta Tip

  • #1 More Joyous ($1.04) from #3 Colorado Claire ($15) and #2 Skyerush ($31)

More Joyous shouldn’t get beaten and while she’s at a price hardly worth the bet, just don’t bet against her as she looks to become the seventh mare in Australian racing history to win 20 or more stakes races.

Colorado Claire probably won’t get close but looks the best of the rest having run fifth to the favourite here last time out in the Sheraco. John O’Shea’s Hussonet four-year-old is a Group 2 winner at the track over 1500m in open company and has class.

Skyerush meanwhile has the experience with 35 starts to her name and is a multiple Group performer last seen running a close second in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) in Brisbane in June. She doesn’t race the best first-up however and hasn’t won over 1500m before but wouldn’t be shocked if she ran second here.
