Moment Of Change heads an open betting market for Sunday’s Group 1 2012 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.
The Peter Moody-trained four-year-old has begun his spring campaign in impressive form and as such has opened as $3.60 top elect at bookmaker.com.au.
The Barely A Moment gelding won the Listed Show Country Quality (1200m) first-up before finishing within a length of winner Tagus when third in the Tramway Handicap (1400m).
In what is an open betting race, four other horses fall under double figures with last-start winner We’re Gonna Rock ($6.00) occupying the second line of betting ahead of Pinwheel ($6.50), Solzhenitsyn ($7.00) and Shanghai Warrior ($9.00).
We’re Gonna Rock, the horses who finished second to Black Caviar in the Goodwood in May, kicked off his spring in excellent style when winning the Group 3 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) on September 8.
But he meets a number of last-start winners here including Warwick Stakes winner Pinwheel and Queensland Solzhenitsyn who is chasing a fifth consecutive win.
Shanghai Warrior struggled in the Bobbie Lewis but impressed plenty the start before when winning the Aurie’s Star Handicap in convincing style.
It was later found that Shanghai Warrior had a lung infection in the Bobbie Lewis and trainer Pat Hyland is confident he can bounce back this weekend.
“I didn’t even wait until I got home, we went straight from the racecourse to the vet,” Hyland said.
“This is the race I’d set him for all along and he’s had a pretty good hitout in the trial to get him right for it.”
Other horses contesting the Sir Ruper Clarke Stakes include Sydney gelding Centennial Park ($19.00), Australian Guineas runner-up Strike The Stars ($21.00) and Group 1 winner Glass Harmonium ($21.00).
