More Joyous Tops Golden Pendant 2012 Odds

Unsurprisingly the Gai Waterhouse-trained champion mare More Joyous has opened at an unbackably short quote to win the 2012 Golden Pendant at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday on way to the coveted $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate in Melbourne next month.

More Joyous

More Joyous is the odds-on favourite to win the 2012 Golden Pendant this Saturday

The eight-time Group 1 winning daughter of More Than Ready hasn’t been beaten since the Myer Classic last Melbourne Cup Carnival winning her five most recent runs including the Queen Of The Turf Stakes – Doncaster Mile – Queen Elizabeth Stakes triple during the autumn.

After resuming with an easy win in the Listed Sheraco Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on September 15, on Saturday More Joyous returns to the track where she again looks set to sleigh her rivals without much effort in the $250,000 Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m).

There are now just five horses in the Golden Pendant 2012 field following the early scratching of #4 Pane In The Glass who will instead take on Epsom Handicap fancy Fat Al, another odds-on favourite for Waterhouse at Saturday’s meeting, in the $175,000 Group 2 Shannon Stakes (1500m).

Since the scratching More Joyous has come right into a Black Caviar-esque price of $1.04 in the Golden Pendant odds.

None of her rivals are rated any kind of chance of coming close by the bookie with the next shortest-priced runner in the Golden Pendant betting markets being Colorado Claire at a quote of $15.

John O’Shea’s four-year-old Hussonet mare, winner of the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) at the track back in March, resumed in the Sheraco when fifth to More Joyous and will appreciate the extra 200m on Saturday as she vies for three from three at Rosehill.

The only other mare under $50 in the markets is then Guy Walter-trained Group 2 winner Skyerush ($31), the veteran Super Jet seven-year-old racing for the first time since her close second to Pear Tart in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) in Brisbane on June 23.

Skyerush’s stablemates Forarainyday ($81) and Delzera ($101) complete the Golden Pendant betting picture.

To get behind More Joyous, or one of Waterhouse’s two other odds-on favourites at Rosehill with Fat Al in the Shannon Stakes and Strawberry Boy in the Colin Stephen Quality, head over to today.
