It’s Official – Black Caviar Next Race 2013

Connections of the world’s best mare Black Caviar have officially announced the decision to race on with the undefeated queen in 2013.

A winner of all 22 of her starts to date, six-year-old Bel Esprit stunner Black Caviar’s career has been in limbo since she injured herself during her successful international debut in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

That was the superlative sprinter’s 12thGroup 1 victory and took her total earnings to an impressive $6.8 million in prize money.

Black Caviar will race on in 2013 during the Melbourne & Sydney Autumn Carnivals

After returning to Melbourne a few weeks after her overseas victory Black Caviar was rested and rumours started to spread about her possible retirement.

With trainer Peter Moody and her owners continuing to delay a decision on whether to bring the ‘Black Flash’ back for another season or send her to the breeding barn, the public seemed to believe they may have seen the end of the turf darling.

Today however Moody announced their decision to spell Black Caviar until the end of the year before bringing her back for the 2013 Melbourne and Sydney Autumn Racing Carnivals, the champ proving she had more racing in her during her recent work.

During the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival this year Black Caviar won three from three racking up two Group 1 victories when defeating Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed by three and a half lengths in the CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield – which was her first look at the 1400m, before dropping back down to the 1000m where she got the better of perennial place getter Hay List yet again in Flemington’s Lightning Stakes.

While she didn’t race in Sydney this last autumn, the year before Black Caviar made her Sydney debut in April when winning the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick – these same races likely to be on the agenda for her in 2013.
