Golden Rose winner Epaulette will be out to continue his good form and show that he can challenge Pierro in the Caulfield Guineas when he lines up in the 2012 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) on Sunday.
The talented three-year-old is a $2.50 bookmaker.com.au favourite to win the main event this weekend and will have Darley number one jockey Kerrin McEvoy back on board.
McEvoy elected to ride fellow Darley runner Albrecht in the Golden Rose, who ran a close second, but will not have to make a choice this weekend.
He will ride Albrecht in the Stan Fox Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday before flying to Melbourne to assume the mount on Epaulette the following day.
“They are both good quality colts and it’s exciting to be back on them,” McEvoy said earlier this week.
McEvoy is not concerned about Epaulette’s ability to handle his first test in the Melbourne direction.
“This horse has done enough in the Melbourne direction working that way, so it shouldn’t be too much of an issue,” he said.
Occupying the second line of betting is Golden Rose third placegetter Ashokan ($5.50) who is just ahead of Shamexpress ($6.00), Awesome Bro ($7.50) and Dominant ($7.50).
All horses that fall under double figures have either won or placed at stakes level this campaign.
Shamexpress earned a Golden Rose berth on the back of a third-place finish in the McNeil Stakes but failed to make an impact in the $1 million three-year-old feature.
Awesome Bro finished second in the Henry Bucks Stakes last start while Dominant was a narrow runner-up in the McKenzie Stakes last month.
Other Caulfield Guineas Prelude runners include If I Could ($13.00), Murcielaga ($15.00) and Let Go Lenni ($17.00).
