Buffering Heads 2012 Moir Stakes Betting

Star Queensland sprinter Buffering is the short-priced favourite for Friday night’s Group 2 2012 Moir Stakes (1200m) at MooneeValley.

The Robert Heathcote-trained gelding is having his first start of the spring campaign that will be geared towards the Group 1 Manikato Stakes and the Patinack Farm Classic (1200m).

A winner of nine of 26 starts, Buffering is being offered at $2.60 by bookmaker.com.au to continue his impressive fresh record that has seen him win four of five first-up starts.

The son of Mossman heads to Melbourne on the back of an injury interrupted winter campaign where she still managed to finish second in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 and the Stradbroke Handicap.

The biggest danger to spoiling the start of his campaign is Tiger Tees who occupies the second line at $3.70.

The Joe Pride-trained sprinter has a winning strike rate of 69 percent with nine victories from 13 starts and was dominant first-up in the Concorde Stakes when recording a three-length win.

Pride is confident he can take the success shown at home in Sydney on the road in what will be his first start in Melbourne.

“I’m reasonably confident he’ll handle the track because of how tractable he is and how easily he’s handled different tracks in the past,” Pride said.

“Nothing seems to bother him that way.”

Peter Moody-trained gelding Ready To Rip ($7.50) is the only other horse under double figures and comes into the race on the back of a

The former Queensland galloper has been in sensational form since joining Moody’s stable, winning his first two starts at stakes level before finishing third in the PB Lawrence Stakes.

Others in the Moir Stakes market include dual Group 1 winner Atomic Force ($10.00), consistent mare Platelet ($11.00) and Group 1 placegetter ($11.00).
