Star Queensland sprinter Buffering is the short-priced favourite for Friday night’s Group 2 2012 Moir Stakes (1200m) at MooneeValley.
The Robert Heathcote-trained gelding is having his first start of the spring campaign that will be geared towards the Group 1 Manikato Stakes and the Patinack Farm Classic (1200m).
The son of Mossman heads to Melbourne on the back of an injury interrupted winter campaign where she still managed to finish second in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 and the Stradbroke Handicap.
The biggest danger to spoiling the start of his campaign is Tiger Tees who occupies the second line at $3.70.
The Joe Pride-trained sprinter has a winning strike rate of 69 percent with nine victories from 13 starts and was dominant first-up in the Concorde Stakes when recording a three-length win.
Pride is confident he can take the success shown at home in Sydney on the road in what will be his first start in Melbourne.
“I’m reasonably confident he’ll handle the track because of how tractable he is and how easily he’s handled different tracks in the past,” Pride said.
“Nothing seems to bother him that way.”
