Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Star filly Snitzerland is the clear standout in the Group 3 2012 Champagne Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night.
She is one of 10 horses named in the final field to contest the $150,000 three-year-old fillies’ sprint and brings tremendous form into the race.
After running second in the Golden Slipper in April, Snitzerland picked up where she left off this spring to win both the the males in the both the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes and the Group 2 Danehill Stakes.
The Gerald Ryan-trained filly was given a look at the Moonee Valley track on Monday and the Rosehill trainer said she was right at home.
“I’ve always thought she goes better the Melbourne way and she didn’t turn a hair here today,” Ryan said.
“Always on the right leg, handled it fine.”
Snitzerland has shown she can either lead or sit off the pace and it wouldn’t surprise to see her take up a position up front when she bounces out of barrier one this weekend.
While the daughter of Snitzel is the star attraction in the Champagne Stakes on Friday, there are a number of other talented fillies also in the field.
One of those is the John O’Shea-trained Hoss Amor who has won four of six starts including three times at stakes level during the Brisbane winter carnival.
Also included in the field is Elite Elle who won the first four starts of her career before finishing fourth in the Group 3 McNeil Stakes at Caulfield earlier this month.
Other horses included in the Champagne Stakes field are last-start winner Dashitude, Blue Diamond placegetter Armed For Action and the Anthony Cummings-trained Clinking.
