Small 2012 Moir Stakes Field Named

There were 15 nominations for the Group 2 2012 Moir Stakes (1200m) on Monday but that number has been reduced considerably following acceptances this morning.

Buffering heads the Moir Stakes field

Just eight horses will line up in the $300,000 sprint at Moonee Valley on Friday night with the field headed by Buffering and Tiger Tees.

Buffering, a winner of nine of 26 starts, will be out to continue his strong first-up record which was evident last spring when winning the Group 3 McEwen Stakes.

Known for getting out of the stalls quickly, Buffering is likely to lead after drawing barrier two with fellow speedster Tiger Tees expected to sit outside him after drawing barrier six.

Tiger Tees is not as proven at weight-for-age level as Buffering but boasts an outstanding record of nine wins from 13 starts and go his spring off to a flyer in the Concorde Stakes with a three-length win.

It may only be a small field but what remains is quality with the top pair joined by dual Group 1 winner Atomic Force as well as first-up runner Thankgodyou’rehere.

It will be Thankgodyou’rehere’s first outing since joining the stable of Peter Morgan and Craig Widdison and he will be looking to return to the form that saw him finish second to Atomic Force in the 2011 Group 1 Galaxy.

Peter Moody may not have Black Caviar this spring but he still has a number of sprinters in his stable and one that will line up on Friday is Ready To Rip.

The five-year-old gelding has been in terrific form since joining Moody’s stable from Queensland, winning twice at stakes level over the winter and finishing third in the PB Lawrence Stakes.

Other horses contesting the Moir Stakes include Group 1 winner Green Birdie and consistent mare Platelet who has only missed a place once from 14 starts.
