Bill Stutt Stakes Field 2012 – Pierro V Who?

Superstar colt Pierro makes his first outing in Melbourne on Friday night and appears set to keep his unbeaten record alive in the Group 2 2012 Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) at MooneeValley.

Pierro will start as a short-priced favourite in the Stutt Stakes

The Gai Waterhouse-trained three-year-old will face just seven rivals and on form and handicap ratings he is a class above.

A winner of seven undefeated starts and more than $3 million in prizemoney, Pierro has a handicap rating of 114, 28 points clear of his nearest rival Jimando (86).

The Golden Slipper winner showed he would not be a failed three-year-old when showing typical dominance to win his first-up test in the Run To The Rose by more than a length.

Having his final hitout prior to the Caulfield Guineas, Pierro has drawn barrier three and will be accompanied by regular jockey Nash Rawiller.

While Pierro appears to have the race to lose, a number of promising horses have been entered with bigger targets in mind including in-form colt Jimando.

The Blue Diamond Stakes placegetter has won both his starts this spring including the Listed Henry Bucks Stakes and is on trial for a start in either the Caulfield Guineas or the Victoria Derby.

“If he’s competitive against Pierro, we’ll go to the Caulfield Guineas,” trainer Tony McEvoy said.

“If not, it’ll be the Derby.”

Also Derby-bound is Stephen Theodore-trained gelding Road Trippin while the unbeaten Phillipi faces his first test at stakes level.

The Michael Kent-trained colt was impressive in his first two starts when winning at Mornington and Moonee Valley and is entered for the Caulfield Guineas, Spring Champion Stakes and Victoria Derby.
