A capacity field of sixteen fillies will line up...
One of the headline events at Rosehill Garden’s Saturday race meeting this weekend will be the Stan Fox Stakes 2012 where the Peter Snowden-trained Albrecht tops the diminutive seven horse field.
Due to run as Rosehill Race 4 at 2:4pm the $250,000 Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) is considered a nice lead-up for three-year-olds heading to Melbourne next month for the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 13.
The 2012 edition of the Stan Fox however has drawn just seven acceptors, the favourite of which is sure to be Snowden’s Caulfield Guineas-bound Albrecht.
Drawn in the extreme outside barrier with Kerrin McEvoy to ride the Redoute’s Choice colt vies for their third win from five starts, the Group 3 Up & Coming Stakes champ last seen crossing a close second behind the fellow Snowden-trained Epaulette in the Group 1 Golden Rose over 1400m at Rosehill on September 15.
Albrecht currently pays around $11 in the futures Caulfield Guineas odds, markets led by odds-on favourite Pierro following yesterday’s second acceptances.
Snowden is confident with Albrecht’s condition heading into the Stan Fox after they worked sharply on Tuesday morning.
“Albrecht’s work was very sharp this morning,” Snowden said yesterday.
“You can make a case he should have won the Golden Rose so I’m looking forward to the race on Saturday.”
Another decent chance for the Caulfield Guineas that will run in Saturday’s Stan Fox Stakes is the Gai Waterhouse-trained Kabayan.
Haradasun gelding Kabayan has twice run at elite level when a nose away second to Sizzling in the TJ Smith at Eagle Farm back in June and fifth last start in the Golden Rose.
Other notable 2012 Stan Fox Stakes hopefuls include the Patinack Farm-owned Casino Prince colt Trophies (barrier six) coming off a distant second to Proisir in the Group 3 Spring Stakes over the Newcastle mile last week, and Anthony Cummings’ untapped Hotel Grand gelding Fiveandahalfstar (barrier three) who was a late entry.
The John Sargent-trained Manawatu Sire’s Produce Stakes runner-up Magic Shaft (barrier four), Bart Cummings’ lightly-raced Divine Moon (barrier two), and the David Hayes-trained Redoute’s Choice filly Mama’s Choice on the rails with gate one and Glyn Schofield to ride then round out the field.
