2012 Golden Pendant Field – More Joyous to Face Five Rivals

Eight-time Group 1 winning mare More Joyous will face off against just five rivals when she runs second-up in the Golden Pendant 2012 at Sydney’s Rosehill Racecourse on Saturday, the Cox Plate bound champ having scared off any other big name contenders.

More Joyous

More Joyous could have her last Sydney run for the season in Saturday's 2012 Golden Pendant

Running at 2:00pm as Rosehill Race 3 on Saturday the $250,000 Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) for fillies and mares, formerly known as the Research Stakes, will see $4.3 million earning More Than Ready six-year-old More Joyous, in barrier three with regular rider Nash Rawiller in the saddle again, vie for her sixth win on the trot.

She was undefeated during her stellar autumn campaign that included three Group 1 victories with the Doncaster Mile the most notable of those before resuming on September 15 to take out the Listed Sheraco Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill.

Although nominated for the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick Saturday week, More Joyous is likely to have her last run in Sydney on Saturday before heading to Melbourne to prepare for the $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 27.

More Joyous’ main Golden Pendant challenger meanwhile will be the Guy Walter-trained Skyerush in barrier one with Blake Shinn engaged.

The Super Jet seven-year-old was last seen running a close second to Pear Tart in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) in Brisbane in June and looks to be running for second again on Saturday against More Joyous.

Taking advantage of the small field Walter has also accepted for his last start Wyong winner Forarainyday who races in a black type for the first time, and Delzera drawn in barriers four and five respectively.

The John O’Shea-trained Hussonet four-year-old Colorado Claire coming off a Sheraco Stakes fifth, and John Thompson’s Pane In The Glass who was last in the Sheraco complete the Golden Pendant final field for 2012.
