More Joyous Leads 2012 Golden Pendant Nominations

Gai Waterhouse’s glamour mare More Joyous will continue her Cox Plate preparations this Saturday at Rosehill when she contests the Golden Pendant 2012.

More Joyous

More Joyous will start favourite in the Golden Pendant 2012 at Rosehill on Saturday

The eight time Group 1 champion resumed racing on September 15 posting her 20th career success, six-year-old More Joyous easily winning the Listed Sheraco Stakes (1200m) – a race she also saluted in back in 2010.

On Saturday the daughter of More Than Ready will look for back-to-back spring wins this time running in the $250,000 Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) for fillies and mares.

Formerly known as the Research Stakes, the 2012 Golden Pendant has this year attracted nine early entries with nominations extended until 11:00am Tuesday.

More Joyous is the obvious headliner, the $4.3 million earner heading towards the $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 27.

Currently More Joyous is the equal $7 second favourite in the Cox Plate betting markets at with the Peter Moody-trained Manighar and last weekend’s Underwood Stakes winner Ocean Park.

The trio trail only More Joyous’ undefeated stablemate Pierro ($5) who is out for their eighth straight turf triumph this Friday night in the Bill Stutt Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Other notable Golden Pendant nominees for 2012 include the Chris Waller-trained Red Tracer, Kerry Parker’s Australian Oaks second placegetter Aliyana Tilde and Tattersall’s Tiara runner-up- Skyerush.

Super Jet seven-year-old Skyerush races for the first time since her close second to Pear Tart in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm back in June, and while happy with her condition, trainer Guy Walter knows that More Joyous will be near impossible to beat here.

“I don’t expect her to beat More Joyous but I was pleased with her barrier trial so I expect her to run well,” Walter said.

Skyerush, who will be ridden by her Group 2 Emanciapation Stakes winning jockey Blake Shinn on Saturday, is heading towards the $500,000 Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day, Saturday November 3, an event they finished an unlucky fourth to Hurtle Myrtle in last spring.
