2012 George Main Stakes Day – Race Scratchings

George Main Stakes Day is set to kick off shortly at Royal Randwick Racecourse today September 22, 2012, with the first race scheduled for 12.55pm AEST.

There are only three horses scratched for the entire day, with high profile sprinter Rain Affair being one of them.

Rain Affair was looking to turn his form around in today’s Group 2 The Shorts after finishing an unexpected fourth in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes at Warwick Farm Racecourse on September 8.

The five-year-old gelding has won 11 of his 16 race starts and has earned more than $1 million in prize money during his horse racing career.

Rain Affair

Rain Affair is the only scratching in the Group 2 The Shorts at Royal Randwick Racecourse today.

There has yet to be an explanation for Rain Affair’s scratching, with jockey Corey Brown’s latest comments giving no sign the horse was expected to be withdrawn from the 2012 The Shorts field.

“Joe has said he has come right on since that run,” Brown said.

“The old Rain Affair, the one that we’ve seen before last start, is a super-competitive horse and it was totally out of character how he raced the other day.

“So if he’s back to his old self he’ll be hard to beat.”

Rain Affair was extremely successful during the autumn racing carnival, winning the Group 2 Expressway Stakes, Group 2 Apollo Stakes and Group 2 Challenge Stakes.

He also finished a close second in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes and Group 1 All Aged Stakes.

Despite Rain Affair’s scratching, there are still countless chances in all eight races on today’s 2012 George Main Stakes Day.
