Melbourne has action-packed cards for the rest of the spring now and this weekend racing heads to Caulfield where one of the key highlights is the Group 3 2012 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m).
A field of 15 three-year-old fillies will line up to press their claims ahead of the Group 1 Thousand Guineas next month and there is no shortage of quality.
The current favourite is spruik filly Commanding Jewel ($3.00) who heads the market ahead of Adelaide filly Molto Bene ($6.00) and last-start winners Spitfire Lady ($8.50), Bloomingdale Miss ($9.00) and Members Joy ($9.00).
For the best Thousand Guineas selections keep reading as the Races.com.au team have been pouring over the form and race replays to come up with their winning picks.
#5 Molto Bene $6.00
Must forgive the first-up run of this Will Clarken-trained filly who received a check in running and didn’t handle getting held up in traffic at all.
Prior to that was unbeaten from two starts including a three-length win in the SA Sires’ Produce Stakes and will enjoy the step back up to 1400 metres here.
Really promising horse and will show great improvement in her second Melbourne outing here.
After struggling first-up in the Quezette Stakes on a heavy track, Lady Of Harrods bounced back in terrific fashion last start wo win the Group 3 McNeil Stakes ahead of the likes of Kabayan, Shamexpress and Elite Elle.
There is a slight query on whether she can handle the extra 200 metres but drawn well from the inside if she can reproduce her second-up run she can challenge the favourites.
Commanding Jewel has been hyped up during the early stages of her career, partly because of her pedigree but a lot has to do with her form on the track.
The three-quarter sister to Atlantic Jewel attracted plenty of attention when winning a trial by 12 lengths in July and since then has scored dominant wins at Swan Hill and Moonee Valley. Talented filly.
