Naturalism Stakes 2012 – Preview and Tips

One of the most important races of the weekend stands to be the 2012 Naturalism Stakes (2000m) which features a full field and plenty of chances.

It may only be a Group 3 event but with Caulfield Cup ballot exemption up for grabs and time running out until the prestigious staying feature it is set to be an exciting affair.

Of the 16-horse field only Norsqui has qualified on the basis of his Mornington Cup win and the betting suggests it will be a very open affair.

Let’s Elope Stakes winner Zurella heads the market at $4.60 from Anthony Freedman-trained import Fruehling ($5.50) who is the first emergency and will only gain a start if a horse is withdrawn.

Other horses at the top of the market include Mr O’Ceirin, Shenzhou Steeds ($6.00) and Sea Galleon ($10.00).

For our expert tips in this crucial race keep reading as the Races.com.au team have been hard at work to bring you our expert selections.

The Winner

#13 Sea Galleon bookmaker.com.au

This six-year-old has looked poised to strike in his last two starts but has finished third and fourth to Excluded in his two most recent starts.

The Galileo gelding typically performs best with a few runs under his belt and is running fourth-up here.

Gets a good draw in barrier seven here and the blinkers go back on which sould help.

The Placings

#7 Zurella $4.60 and #12 Streets Way $12.00

New Zealand Oaks runner-up Zurella came to Australia with plenty of hype and justified that straight away with a one-length win in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes.

A winner of five of nine starts there is no doubt the four-year-old is a talent and she should be right in the mix again here.

Streets Away is rock-hard fit after two August wins and a third-place finish in the Slickpix Stakes and on that form can’t be left out.
