Spruik filly Commanding Jewel heads betting for Saturday’s Group 3 2012 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield.
There has been plenty of hype about the three-quarter sister to Atlantic Jewel since she won a trial by 12 lengths in July and so far she has been able to justify that.
The exciting three-year-old is a $2.90 favourite to keep her unbeaten streak alive this weekend after impressive wins at Swan Hill and Moonee Valley to begin her career.
But this weekend is genuine step up in class as she faces 14 other fillies all who are being aimed at the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) next month.
Adelaide filly Molto Bene is considered the biggest danger, at least as far as the market is concerned, and is currently rated a $6.00 chance in the three-year-old fillies’ feature.
The Will Clarken-trained youngster was a stakes winner as a two-year-old and will be looking to bounce back from her first-up race in Melbourne where she finished fifth after being checked in running.
Three last-start winners also fall under double figures with Spitfire Lady ($8.50), Bloomingdale Miss ($9.00) and Members Joy ($9.00) rounding out the top end of the market.
The Michael Moroney-trained Spitfire Lady is making her metropolitan debut after a 2 1/2 length win at Seymour earlier this month while Bloomingdale Miss and Members Joy are both coming off Saturday city wins.
Members Joy, owned by the members of the Melbourne Racing Club, produced a complete form reversal when winning the Cap D’Antibes Stakes after struggling in heavy conditions when last in her previous start.
Other Thousand Guineas Prelude runners include Showmya Miss ($14.00) and recent McNeil Stakes winner Lady Of Harrods ($17.00).
