Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Brett Partelle’s Wyong galloper Torio’s Quest is currently leading the Bill Ritchie Handicap 2012 betting markets ahead of this Saturday’s Royal Randwick showdown.
One of six Group race features running on George Main Stakes Day, the $125,000 Group 3 Bill Ritchie Handicap (1400m) field is down to nine hopefuls following the early withdrawal of #9 Flaming Rock.
Sitting top of the Bill Ritchie Handicap odds at bookmaker.com.au is resuming Oratorio gelding Torio’s Quest set to make their five-year-old debut after a three and a half month spell.
Winner of last year’s Queensland Guineas, Torio’s Quest hasn’t raced since their below par 15th to Mid Summer Music in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 9.
They have however won their pat two trials over 1000m and 1200m in Sydney leading up to their return and have the early support from the punters paying $3.50 to take out the Bill Ritchie despite their barrier 10 (into 9) draw.
Narrow second favourite in the Bill Ritchie Handicap betting odds is then Said Com at a quote of $3.80.
Due to jump from barrier six with Corey Brown in the saddle the Chris Waller-trained O’Reilly four-year-old has had three runs since the start of August the most recent of which was a sixth to Tagus in the Group 3 Tramway Handicap (1400m) two weeks ago.
Fourth-up during the autumn Said Com came into their own coming within a quarter length of Mosheen in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) and connections will be hoping for a similar performance at the track again here.
The bookies are having a hard time separating this field with three other runners all under $10 in the markets with:
- #5 Speediness ($4.80) – Nice barrier three draw for this Glyn Schofield mount, trainer Colin Scott adds winkers to their gear hoping they can come on from their first-up fifth in the Bobbie Lewis in Flemington two weeks ago when ridden by Craig Williams
- #2 Steps In Time ($5) – John O’Shea’s Danehill Dancer mare as Group 2 winning form to their name so no doubt they have class, also gets a drawn in five but didn’t feature when 10th in the Tramway over this distance against similar types in the Tramway last time out
- #4 Wild And Proud ($6.50) – Gai Waterhouse-trained four-year-old finished dead last in the Tramway but did win the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes beating Manawanui over this distance at Rosehill back in March, needs it wet but with the track a Heavy (9) that day – if the rain comes they will firm
Of the double-figure roughies punters should have a look at the likes of Waterhouse’s Group 1 winner Herculian Prince ($21) who has a top three finish in them first-up over this distance, and even Bart Cummings’ imported stallion Dare To Dream ($41) in their Aussie debut who won three of their four starts in Europe – both of which could add nice value to the exotics with a bit of luck.
