Four Waller Runners in Hill Stakes 2012 Field & Barriers

Premier Sydney horseman Chris Waller doesn’t just have a stranglehold over Saturday’s Group 1 feature with three livewire chances in the George Main Stakes, he will also saddle up four hopefuls in the next race on the Royal Randwick card – the 2012 Hill Stakes.

Stout Hearted

Stout Hearted is one of four runners for Chris Waller in the 2012 Hill Stakes this Saturday

Waller will be represented by Shoot Out, Rangirangdoo and Danleigh in the $350,000 Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) on Saturday as he looks to post his first Group 1 win of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival.

Following the George Main Waller-trained runners also saturate the field for the $200,000 Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) with four stablemates to vie for the weight-for-age win.

One of the most interesting of Waller’s Hill Stakes gallopers is Stout Hearted in gate seven, the imported four-year-old looking for their second win on the trot after taking out the Group 3 Kingstown Town Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on September 15.

Waller has also accepted for recent British import Class Is Class who debuted down under when seventh in the Tramway Handicap on September 8, last-start Premier’s Cup runner-up Permit and last year’s The Metropolitan champ The Verminator.

It is shaping up as a nice edition of the Hill Stakes in 2012 with plenty of depth in the 11-horse field.

Other big names in the mix include the Lloyd Williams-owned Mourayan who resumed with a fourth to Southern Speed in the Makybe Diva Stakes, Graeme Boyd’s veteran nine-year-old Kiwi Ginga Dude, Peter Moody’s Eagle Farm Cup – Brisbane Cup double winner Lights Of Heaven and the David Vandyke-trained Lamasery.

Six-year-old Commands gelding Lamasery races third-up in the Hill Stakes after two promising runs at Warwick Farm including their third to Danleigh in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) two weeks back.

Heading towards the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, Lamasery is tipped to improve again going up in distance.

They won their last start over the 1800m taking out the Listed Johnnie Walker Stakes at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day, a consolation prize for connections who had to abandon the spring cups dream after they suffered a hoof injury.

“He’s due to go around on Saturday and is doing well,” Vandyke said.
