Commanding Jewel Features in 2012 Thousand Guineas Prelude Field

Much-hyped filly Commanding Jewel will be out to keep her unbeaten record alive this weekend when she contests the Group 3 2012 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield.

Commanding Jewel

Commanding Jewel will attempt a third consecutive victory in Saturday's Thousand Guineas Prelude

The three-year-old has received plenty of attention, largely due to being a three-quarter sister to Atlantic Jewel, and gets a chance to show what all the fuss is about in her first step up to stakes level.

Trained by Leon Corstens, the daughter of Commands won by 1 1/2 lengths on debut in a Swan Hill maiden before heading to Moonee Valley to win by a length on city debut.

She lines up in a quality 15-horse field this weekend, all who are vying for a spot in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas on October 17.

Included in the field are plenty of last-start winners such as Members Joy and Lady Of Harrods who both bounced back from huge defeats on wet tracks in their previous outings.

Lady Of Harrods won the Group 3 McNeil Stakes ahead of the likes of Kabayan and Shamexpress while Members Joy scored black-type victory in the Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes.

Other recent winners include the Robert Smerdon-trained Bloomingdale Miss, Robbie Laing’s Lonhruge and Michael Moroney’s Spitfire Lady.

Adelaide Group 3 winner Molto Bene will be having her second start in Melbourne after getting caught in traffic during her first hitout in the Cap D’Antibes Stakes where she finished fifth.

This exciting event for three-year-old fillies often unearths quality horses and famous previous winners include Ortensia and Miss Finland.
