Greg Eurell-trained filly Love For Ransom is on track for the Group 1 2012 Thousand Guineas (1600m) after an exciting victory at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
The daughter of Red Ransom produced a stunning finish to come from the back of the field and reel in Stella Lante in the Bobcastle Plate.
It was just the second start of Love For Ransom’s career with her previous outing resulting in a win at Sandown in May.
Trainer Eurell had all but conceded she would not win when seeing her position at the turn and admitted to being thrilled following the remarkable victory.
“It certainly was a big big effort on her part and on the turn I thought if she runs into the money she has done a super job and she exceeded expectations from there,” Eurell said.
“We have always been happy with what she had done back at home and she showed ability all the way through.”
Multiple Melbourne Cup winning jockey Glen Boss was aboard for Saturday’s victory and following the race declared her as the Thousand Guineas winner.
While there is still a long way to go before the three-year-old fillies feature on October 17, Eurell will give her every chance to earn her spot.
“She will run at the end of the month in the three-year-old fillies over 1400m at Caulfield then all being well she could go into the guineas,” he said.
A number of Thousand Guineas hopefuls will be on show this weekend in the Thousand Guineas Prelude including exciting youngster Commanding Jewel.
The three-quarter sister to Atlantic Jewel has produced dominant victories in her two career starts two date but faces the biggest test of her career in the Group 3 event.
