Gloaming Stakes 2012 – Nominations Released

Nominations have been announced for the Group 3 2012 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) which stands as an important race heading towards bigger spring features.

Restricted to three-year-olds, the Gloaming Stakes often  unearths seriously talented stayers on their way to events such as the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes and the Victoria Derby.

One horse entered for the Gloaming Stakes that already has both those races on his radar is New Zealand colt It’s A Dundeel.

The Murray Baker-trained youngster has only raced three times in his career but has scored victory on every occasion.

Baker sent the son of High Chaparral to Australia for the spring and he has created plenty of hype with last-to-first victories at both Wyong and Canterbury.

But he faces a step up in class here against a number of horses with stakes experience including the Guy Walter-trained Toydini and Anthony Cummings-trained Ninth Legion.

Toydini will need to bounce back from his most recent sixth-place finish in the Ming Dynasty but two starts ago finished a narrow runner-up to Albrecht in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stkaes (1300m).

Ninth Legion, a son of Fastnet Rock, has finished fourth on in all three of his spring starts including Saturday’s Group 1 Golden Rose.

Gai Waterhouse will be out to continue her early season success and has one entry with colt King Of Olympia.

The son of Encosta De lago was disappointing on debut when fifth at Wyong last month but bounced back on September 8 to win by 2 1/2 lengths in a Newcastle maiden.

Other horses included in Gloaming Stakes nominations are Honorius, Lunar Rise and Patinack pair Strength and Trophies.
