Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Glamour mare More Joyous barely had more than a track gallop at Rosehill today as she scored a convincing win in the Listed 2012 Sheraco Stakes (1200m).
The Gai Waterhouse-trained got her Cox Plate campaign off to a flyer and took her tremendous record to 20 wins from 27 starts as she went about at “Black Caviar” type odds.
With regular jockey Nash Rawiller in the saddle, the More Than Ready mare sat just outside leader Miss Marx before cruising past and claiming a one-length win despite being eased down by Rawiller.
Waterhouse was full of her typical praise for the eight-time Group 1 winner who will have one further start in Sydney before heading to Melbourne.
“More Joyous is exactly that isn’t she. She’s a superstar and aren’t we lucky to see her kick off the preparation here in Sydney?” Waterhouse said.
“She’s the number one female in the country most definitely.”
In an ominous warning to her spring rivals, Nash Rawiller said the six-year-old was “as good as ever” ahead of her Melbourne campaign.
“It’s great to get the first one out of the way and she’s going really good, as good as we thought.”
“She’s been my bread and butter for the last five years. She’s just a beautiful mare to have anything to with.”
“I think she’s as good as she has ever been.”
The champion mare will have one further start in Sydney in two weeks when she contests the 2012 Golden Pendant.
