The 2012 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) is highly anticipated reason and for one reason. More Joyous.
The glamour mare, who has won 19 of 26 starts including eight at Group 1 level, makes her return this weekend on her road to the Cox Plate.
Trained by Gai Waterhouse, More Joyous has not been seen since winning a Group 1 treble in the autumn and she returns as a short-priced favourite this weekend.
She is reportedly training better than ever and she is being offered at almost “Black Caviar odds” at $1.18 at bookmaker.com.au.
No other horse is under double figures with Australian Oaks winner Streama and last-start winner Emotional Circus the next best at $13.00.
Other runners in the fillies and mares feature include Group 1 placegetter Gai’s Choice ($16.00) and talented mare Colorado Claire ($21.00).
#1 More Joyous $1.18
We won’t be winning any tipping prizes here but the superstar mare simply looks unbeatable. Her record speaks for itself and it should be simply a barrier trial tomorrow as she heads towards much bigger things.
Both these mares are being aimed at the Group 1 Myer Classic in November and both have the talent to get there.
Gai’s Choice, trained by the ever-improving David Pfieffer, comes off terrific winter form where she won three straight before running third to Pear Tart in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara.
Colorado Claire impressed as a three-year-old to win five of eight starts including beating the boys in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes.
There is no reason why she can’t build on that as a four-year-old and is drawn nicely in barrier six with James McDonald aboard.
