The spring action is really heating up now and one of the most exciting races on the Moonee Valley card tomorrow is the Group 3 2012 McEwen Stakes (1000m).
The $150,000 sprint features a number of exciting short-distance specialists and the market is currently headed by Jason Warren-trained gelding Bel Sprinter ($2.40).
He’ll be running first-up and according to the market his main rival is in-form Peter Moody-trained galloper Golden Archer ($3.00) who won the Heath 1100 last start.
Others in the McEwen Stakes market include the consistent Stratcombe ($7.50), international Group 1 winner Green Birdie ($14.00) and recent Sandown winner Didntcostalot ($15.00).
#6 Didntcostalot $15.00
Tipping one at longer odds here after this speedster got the gun draw in barrier one. He’s stepping up in class considerably from his two-length midweek win at Sandown but he looks an improved customer this time in work.
Sparked plenty of hype following an impressive trial at Rosehill which was backed up with the Sandown win.
Star jockey Damien Oliver aboard, will get out quickly from the inside and over 1000 metres, his pet distance, could get too much of a lead to run down.
Nobody can deny the two place picks here are classy sprinters and both could potentially feature in the big Group 1 events this spring.
Golden Archer has been a picture of consistency since returning from injury with two wins and a runner-up finish and looks well placed to again perform from barrier six with Luke Nolen aboard.
