Macleod Stakes 2012 – Betting Odds and Tips

The last race of the day at Moonee Valley sees the card finish on a high with a strong field of sprinters named to contest the Listed 2012 Macleod Stakes (1200m).

Both bookies and punters alike are having a tough time finding a favourite with the shortest priced runner That’s The One at $5.50.

Joining the Australian Guineas fourth placegetter at the top end of the market is talented Darley gelding Pied A Terre ($6.00) and the Moody-trained Mr Make Believe ($6.00).

Other runners falling under double figures are Shadowfax ($8.00), Amah Rock ($8.50) and Dee ‘N’ Gee ($8.50).

Not sure who to back in this open sprinting affair? Keep reading as the Races.com.au team have been studying hte form tirelessly to bring your our expert selections.

The Winner

#12 Amah Rock $8.00

Quite keen on this four-year-old at a nice price. Placed at Group 3 level at the track last year behind Karuta Queen and goes well fresh.

He finished 1 1/2 lengths second to Mental at the Brisbane winter carnival who would beat this lot. Drawn well in barrier five and has multiple Melbourne Cup winning jockey Glen Boss in the saddle. Hard to knock.

The Placings

#4 Mr Make Believe $6.00 and #3 Freereturn $14.00

Mr Make Believe got his spring off to a flyer two weeks ago with a strong run that saw him place second to stablemate Golden Archer who could well contest the Group 1 sprints this spring.

Highly consistent with nine wins and three placings from 18 starts and he should be right in the mix again here.

Willing to forgive Freereturn’s last run in a strong Bobbie Lewis field and think he can bounce back to his best here.

Won by a length in his last start at the track and also won the Regal Roller Stakes at Caulfield last month. Fit and firing.
