Taking place as part of a bumper Rosehill card this weekend is the Group 3 2012 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) which will test a number of quality stayers.
Many of these horses are being targeted at Group 1 races down the track such as the 2012 Caulfield Cup and the 2012 Metropolitan.
Current favourite is Gai Waterhouse-trained four-year-old Strawberry Boy ($1.95) who needs to win on Saturday to improve his position on the Caulfield Cup order of entry.
There is a long gap behind the favourite with a number of horses cluttering the $5-$10 range in the market.
Chris Waller-trained Metropolitan hopeful Stout Hearted and Ron Quinton’s Crafty Irna are at $6.00 with the Patinack-owned Maules Creek ($8.00) and 2011 Metropolitan winner The Verminator ($8.50) also under double figures.
For the very best Kingston Town Stakes betting selections keep reading as the Races.com.au team have been hard at work trying to find a winner.
#11 Strawberry Boy $1.95
Gai Waterhouse has declared this lightly-raced gelding a Caulfield Cup type horse and while we are not sure he can go that far, if he is going to be even a chance he has to win this weekend.
And he probably should. He was very impressive in his first two starts this campaign and while he is stepping up in class he is also stepping up in distance and that will definitely help.
Ron Quinton seems to have Crafty Irna in career best form and she’ll appreciate the step up in distance here on her way to the Metropolitan.
Gets a nice draw in barrier two and has the very underrated jockey Christian Reith in the saddle.
Stout Hearted was knocked off by Glencadam Gold last start but it is hard to knock this import.
Ultra consistent and has fitness on his side, he is another that will appreciate the step up in distance.
