Golden Rose 2012 – Preview and Tips

Tomorrow at Rosehill is one of the most anticipated race days of the year, with the 2012 Golden Rose (1400m) the first Group 1 event of the new racing season.

Nechita is the pick to take out the Golden Rose

There is no Pierro in tomorrow’s three-year-old feature but that hasn’t dampened the hype with a number of exciting youngsters entered to chase the riches offered in the $1 million event.

The current favourite is much-hyped Patinack filly Nechita ($2.20) who was dominant last start when winning the Group 3 Silver Shadow Stakes.

Following the daughter of Fastnet Rock in the market is Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding Kabayan ($4.20) who is followed by Albrecht ($9.00), Your Song ($9.00) and Shamexpress ($11.00).

Other horses in the Golden Rose market are Epaulette ($12.00), Ninth Legion ($17.00), Ashokan ($41.00) and Doubtfilly ($101.00).

Not sure who to back in the first Group 1 race of the season? Keep reading as the team have been pouring over the form to bring your our very best selections.

The Winner

#10 Nechita $2.20

Many are suggesting the favourite can’t win here but we’re not sure why. She’s been outstanding with two dominant victories from her first two starts and that should continue here.

The way she sat just off the pace before peeling off and cruising to a comfortable victory in the Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) suggests she will only improve with an extra 200 metres this weekend.

This filly is special.

The Placings

#3 Your Song $9.00 and #4 Kabayan $4.20

Your Song scored two impressive victories during the winter and showed he is a quality colt in the Run To The Rose when he knocked off all but star colt Pierro.

It was another length to third place Epaulette that day who has also shown he is no slouch.

Gai has declared Kabayan the winner and why we think Nechita will be too good we definitely think he will be in the mix.

Yet to finish worse than second from four starts the son of Haradasun was beaten a head by Sizzling in the Group 1 TJ Smith and kicked off his spring campaign with a narrow runner-up in the McNeil Stakes.
