The 2012 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) is not only the major feature race in Melbourne this weekend but is sure to provide a good insight into a number of cups and Cox Plate hopefuls.
Moonee Valley specialist and Cox Plate placegetter Rekindled Interest ($3.60) returns to defend his title and is joined at the top end of the market by Caulfield Cup runner-up Green Moon ($3.60).
The in-form Happy Trails follows the pair in betting at $7.00 along with Group 1 winner Heart Of Dreams ($8.50) and Linton ($9.00).
Other horses in the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam market include Australian Derby runner-up Ethiopia ($17.00) and the Leon Corstens-trained Tokugawa ($18.00).
It looks to be an open affair with plenty of winning chances but the Races.com.au team think they have found some great selections.
#7 Happy Trails $7.00
This Adelaide gelding is simply a different horse this time in and is on trial for a Cox Plate berth here.
The major query is how he will handle the tight-turning Moonee Valley track but he has produced two stunning performances so far this year.
Beat Southern Speed first-up to win the Group 3 Spring Stakes and has since finished second to Sincero in the Memsie.
Will only appreciate the extra distance here and Glen Boss returns after riding him a treat last start.
Green Moon is a classy runner who made up plenty of ground last start when fifth in the Memsie.
Will head towards either the Cox Plate or Caulfield Cup where he is sure to start amongst the favourites.
Linton returns for his first race since winning the Group 3 Lee Stakes in May and can produce a cheeky race first-up. Has won at track and distance.
