Proisir Heads 2012 Spring Stakes Nominations

The two-day 2012 Newcastle Cup carnival kicks off next Wednesday and one of the top races on the opening day is the Group 3 2012 Spring Stakes (1600m).

Heading the impressive 12-horse nominations list is Gai Waterhouse-trained colt Proisir who has recorded two impressive wins since debuting in August.

A two-length debut win at Hawkesbury was backed up with a stunning 2 1/2 length win at Rosehill two weeks ago ahead of the well-regarded Norzita.

A son of Choisir, the exciting youngster is nominated for both the Spring Champion Stakes and the Caulfield Guineas.

Also nominated is the much-hyped Sumarand who has failed to fire since winning by five lengths on debut at Hawkesbury last month.

Anthony Cummings has nominated Saturday’s Golden Rose runner Ninth Legion as well as Calamba, Dolphus and Shawano.

The Darley-owned Limes has been nominated, a colt who placed twice at stakes level as a two-year-old and won first-up at Gosford last month before failing to make an impact in Saturday’sMing Dynasty.

One interesting nomination is the Brett Partelle-trained gelding Clayian who made a promising start to his career on September 6 whenwinning by 1 1/2 lengths at Wyong.

Other nominations include the Patinack-owned Trophies, Allan Denham-trained Mount Nebo and Alan Scorse’s Newcastle Miss.

Next Wednesday an exciting two-day carnival begins in Newcastle with the Group 3 Cameron Handicap also taking place on Wednesday and the Newcastle Cup on Thursday.
