Cameron Handicap 2012 Nominations – Quality Horses Head to Newcastle

Newcastle’s exciting racing carnival is held next week with one of the best races taking place on Wednesday, the Group 3 2012 Cameron Handicap (1500m).

Tramway winner Tagus has been entered for the Cameron Handicap at Newcastle

Worth $150,000, the Cameron Handicap has attracted 20 entries including recent Tramway Handicap quinella Tagus and Kontiki Park.

Tagus produced a terrific form turn around to claim the Group 3 Tramway on Saturday while Kontiki Park backed up her Rosehill win last month to storm home and finish half a length behind the winner.

Kontiki Park is one of two Gai Waterhouse-trained nominations with Melbourne Cup-nominated gelding Western Symbol also included.

The six-year-old is yet to race this spring but had a fantastic autumn campaign where he finished a worst of fourth and recorded three wins from five starts.

There is no shortage of stakes winners included in nominations and one of those is the Ron Quinton-trained Monton who has been entered for this year’s Epsom Handicap.

The six-year-old son of Catbird won the Group 2 Villiers Stakes last year and also finished second in March’s Group 2 Canterbury Stakes.

Yet to taste black-type success but showing plenty of potential is John O’Shea-trained gelding Lightinthenite who has won five of 10 starts.

The five-year-old son of Galileo was last seen running a close third to Monton in the Listed Scone Cup in May.

Champion trainer Bart Cummings has chosen to enter two horses with I Think I Do and import Dare To Dream.

I Think I Do has not raced since a seventh-place finish in the 2011 Australian Derby during a campaign where he also finished second to Fast Clip in the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes.

Other horses entered for the Cameron Handicap include recent Flemington winner Parthian and Gerald Ryan-trained gelding Adnocon.
