Small 2012 Theo Marks Stakes Field

Just eight horses will line up on Saturday in key Golden Rose support race the Group 2 2012 Theo Marks Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill.

Fat Al

Fat Al is one of three Waterhouse-trained horses in the Theo Marks Stakes field

Thirteen horses were nominated on Monday but connections of five chose not to accept leaving high profile Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse to dominate the field.

Waterhouse has three of the eight horses named in the field for the race otherwise known as the Sebring Sprint, with Fat Al, Fast Clip and Tullamore.

Fat Al is likely to get a shot at Group 1 racing this spring and kicks off his campaign this weekend on the back of an outstanding autumn.

The son of Al Maher won the Albury Guineas first-up before winning both the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes and Frank Packer Plate in dominant style.

Fast Clip won the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude before finishing fifth in the Doncaster Mile while Tullamore will be out to recapture the form that saw him place third in last year’s Caulfield Cup.

Leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller has just one runner in the field with last-start winner Dystopia who was impressive when taking out the Listed Toy Show Quality (1300m) last month.

Making a step up in class after impressing during the winter is the Leon Corstens-trained Waterford Hill who has won his last four starts.

While many horses are having their first start of the spring, the Rosehill-based Centennial Park already has plenty of fitness on his side.

The seven-year-old kicked off his campaign with a runner-up effort to Pinwheel in the Missile Stakes but has failed to place in two starts since.

The Theo Marks Stakes is set to be an exciting affair and the best place to back a winner is bookmaker.com.au.
