Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Glamour mare More Joyous seems to have the Listed 2012 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) for the taking at Rosehillon Saturday.
The eight-time Group 1 winner is the clear standout in the nine-horse field for the fillies and mares sprint in what will be the first stop on her road to the Cox Plate.
It will be the six-year-old’s second start in the Sheraco after claiming top honours in the $100,000 event two years ago.
A daughter of More Than Ready, her record speaks for itself. Since debuting in January 2009 she has claimed 19 wins from 26 starts and collected more than $4.2 million in prizemoney.
From all reports she is ready to pick up where she left off in the autumn, which was an unbeaten four-start campaign that included a Group 1 treble in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes, Doncaster Mile and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
If any horse can challenge the champion mare it is likely to be Streama, who has only missed a place twice from 13 starts.
The Guy Walter-trained mare was last seen winning the Group 1 Australian Oaks and also won the Group 1 Flight Stakes last spring.
Streama’s major spring target is likely to come in the Group 1 Myer Classic in November and on Saturday she will carry the same weight (59kg) as More Joyous.
Also potentially headed towards the Myer Classic from Saturday’s Sheraco field are Colorado Claire and Gai’s Choice.
Colorado Claire, trained by John O’Shea, won the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes in the autumn and has an overall record of five wins from eight starts.
Five-year-old mare Gai’s Choice won the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) at Ipswich in June with a last-to-first run and backed it up with a third-place effort in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara.
